Subject:
"Project Solar Cooker" –
A ₹ 37,000 Crore Solution to India’s LPG Crisis
==============================================
Shri Hardeep Singh Puriji :
Minister for Petroleum
Respected Sir,
The current supply tightness and the ₹60 hike in domestic LPG prices (March
2026) are symptoms of a systemic vulnerability. I am writing to urge a strategic
pivot:
> Project Solar Cooker, a mission to transition 33 million households to solar
cooking on a war footing.
As detailed in my long-running advocacy at :
the technology (IIT-B SIX Stove / IOCL Surya Nutan) is ready. What is missing is
the political will to bridge the price gap.
The Irrefutable Math:
The Problem:
We spend over $ 2.7 Billion just on the import of 231 million cylinders for
10% of our base LPG connections .
The Solution:
A 50% subsidy (₹ 9,000) for solar cookers for these 33 million households.
The Result:
Total investment of ₹ 29,700 Crore wipes out an annual recurring drain of
₹ 37,000 Crore (Forex + Subsidies + Logistics).
Sir,
The "deafening silence" since your distribution of pilot units in 2022 must be
replaced by a National Mission.
We cannot afford to wait for the next globalconflict to realize that our kitchens are
powered by foreign ports.
I request a 10-minute briefing to present the tabulated data and the 2026 "Solar
vs. LPG" economic model.
With Regards,
